Volunteers Needed on August 11, 2010 for Levy Ballot Measure

Edmonds School District has a Supplemental School Programs and Operations Levy on the ballot that was sent out to all registered voters in the district on July 26th. The election day (and postmark date for mailed in ballots) is Tuesday, August 17th. The Edmonds Education Association (EEA) is holding a series of phone call nights to spread the word about the levy election. Scripts are provided; it’s simple and a great way to support our school district and our students.

Parents from Terrace Park Elementary are asked to help on August 11th either from 5:00-6:30 p.m. or 6:30-8:00 p.m.  Phone calls occur at the EEA Offices in Lynnwood.  If you are interested and can help with either time slot please email Brett Hagen at bretthgn@hotmail.com to confirm.  A total of 11 people can work each shift.

To learn more about the levy, please visit this page on the Edmonds School District website.

Nominations for CPA and PTA Board

CPA and PTA are currently seeking nominees for participation on their respective 2010-2011 boards and committees. Please consider participating as a board member for either parent association next year.

PTA touches the lives of every student and family at Terrace Park. We are fortunate to have many dedicated parents at our school who are willing to step up into leadership roles both as PTA board members and as committee chairs for the many school-wide activities made possible each year by our PTA. Events like Math Night, Young Authors Day, Science Night, Skate Night, Pod Swim Parties, and many, many more come together each year because of parents’ generosity with their time and talents. Please help to ensure these activities and all the other support provided by PTA can continue without interruption. PTA’s current President and Vice President are able to continue in their positions through 2010-2011. PTA Board is currently recruiting for Treasurer and Secretary, as well as the following committee chairs: chess club, awards, and activities. April 9, 2010 is the next scheduled general meeting for PTA and board members will be voted in by the membership at that meeting.

CPA board is currently recruiting for the position of Vice President. All other current office-holders are able to continue with their positions through 2010-2011. CPA board’s mission is to “communicate, participate, and advocate” by working and meeting with legislators, school and district administrators, and other parent advocacy groups to ensure both continued funding and support for gifted education programs and specific support for the families and teachers in the Challenge program by providing funding for curriculum enhancement and social opportunities and outlets for our membership. Some specific CPA activities include the annual summer picnic for new and returning Challenge families, coordinating Challenge families’ participation in Gifted Education Day in Olympia each year, support for the annual WAETAG conference attended by our teachers, and various special events and appearances by guest speakers throughout the school year. May 18, 2010 is the next scheduled general meeting for CPA and board members will be voted in by the membership at that meeting.

If you can make a commitment to serve on either board or chair a committee for the 2010-2011 school year, please contact Ginger Everhart.

Thank you for your consideration and support of all our kids!

Phone Bank Volunteers Needed on Vital Levy Election–January 26th

Parent volunteers are needed to phone local voters who have voted for levy measures in the past to remind them to send in their completed ballots. The Levy Re-authorization is the only item on this February’s ballot, and voter response is expected to be low. While support of school levies is always important, in light of both recent and projected cuts in state funding for our schools, passage of this levy measure is critical.

Volunteers are needed at the phone bank in the Edmonds Education Association Office, 19707 64th Avenue West, Lynnwood on January 26th between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Please contact Michelle Toshima for more details or to sign-up for a time slot on the phones.

WAETAG Conference Volunteers Needed

WAETAG (Washington Association for Educators of the Talented and Gifted) will be holding its annual conference on October 23rd and 24th at the Lynnwood Embassy Suites. Traditionally, Challenge parents volunteer to help staff the event by working the check-in tables and providing whatever assistance the presenters or participants might need during the course of the conference.Volunteers are needed Friday the 23rd from about 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (two shifts available) and Saturday the 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (three shifts available). We are looking for four to six volunteers for each shift.

If your are able to donate some of your time, please contact Megan Hicks.
