Join us in Olympia!
Help remind lawmakers that funding Gifted Education is vital and is part of the state’s paramount duty to educate Washington children.
Gifted Education Day is an annual event scheduled by the
Washington Coalition for Gifted Education (WCGE).
Together, we learn about current education legislation, tour the Capitol, and meet personally with legislators to voice support for programs for gifted and highly capable students. Challenge Parents Association connects its members with their district legislators and provides background information and specific talking points with the help of the Coalition.
We’ll take time out for a brown-bag lunch and (weather permitting) hike down the Heritage Park Hillside Trail to Capitol Lake before hitting the road to come home.

TIME: meet in Olympia at 9:30 am, Estimated Return by 3:30 pm
So that we can organize carpools and schedule meetings for you with your legislators, as available, please RSVP to Christy Brookhart, and include the following information:
- Number of Adults attending
- Adult Name(s)
- Number of Students attending
- Student Name(s)
- Teacher(s)
- Phone we can reach during GED (i.e. cell)
- Legislative District
If you can’t join us in Olympia, please consider submitting a letter for us to deliver! Share your personal experience as a parent or your child’s experience. Your personal story on the impact of funding inequities is a powerful way to highlight the need for gifted education. Address your letter(s) personally. Our legislators tell us every year that hearing from us on this issue is important!
