The Jacob Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Act was established to provide funds to help highly capable disadvantaged students in the US. As things currently stand, the Javits Act is unfunded by the US Congress in the current budget. However, two congressmen (Congressman Courtney (D-CT) and Congressman Gallegly (R-CA) are currently leading an effort to re-instate funding for the Act.
Please take just a moment to lend your voice to the chorus supporting the return of funding for the Javits Act. You can let your federal representatives know directly that you want them to sign on to the Courtney-Gallegly letter. An on-line form letter is available on the Council for Exception Children’s website. You can edit the suggested text and choose to send your final version to your congressional representatives as a print letter or email.
The Javits Act is a small program by federal program standards, yet it has a huge impact on educational research and opportunities for disadvantaged gifted students. Time is of the essence, so please click on the link above and send your message today!
