Lake Washington GEAC hosts Anne van Roden and Gloria Sandford, local treasures on gifted parenting, who will be presenting: “Understanding the unique social and emotional aspects of gifted children.”

Many gifted children are intense, sensitive, anxious, energetic, inflexible and/or disorganized.  SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of the Gifted) has spent over 30 years researching and understanding why gifted children have these different social and emotional needs and responses to life.  While each gifted child is a very unique combination of these traits, we will bring you core, foundational SENG concepts to help you understand what lies underneath these intensities and sensitivities.  And leave you with some parenting tools to help make life a bit more smooth in the often chaotic, fascinating, amazing, and challenging roller-coaster ride that is raising gifted children.”

This is a monthly meeting of The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) Gifted Education Advisory Council (GEAC). Monthly general meetings are always open to the public; it is not necessary to be a GEAC member to attend. Typically Dan Phelan, LWSD Director of Accelerated Programs, starts each meeting with an update on highly capable programs such as Quest and Advanced Placement, as well as any relevant LWSD developments.
