Parents of Gifted Learners:
Parents of children in the Edmonds School District gifted program are encouraged to attend the following conference for parents of gifted learners.
The 2012 CONNECTIONS Conference, sponsored by Northwest Gifted Child Association, will be Saturday morning, February 4th , at the Edmonds-Woodway High School in the Edmonds School District. Don’t miss this informative symposium on raising gifted children. You can learn more about this conference and register by going to www.nwgca.org and clicking on the CONNECTIONS registration tab on the home page.
The keynote presentation is designed to help participants understand their gifted child even better. Participants will then be able to articulate to others who gifted children are, what their characteristics and learning needs are, what their social and emotional issues are, the myths surrounding this small population, and the risk factors they face. Filled with examples to illustrate and research to quote, this presentation helps participants themselves feel like now understand more fully and believe they can talk about it to the others in their lives.
There are six breakout sessions. You pick two to attend. They cover children stress and anxiety, homeschooling as an alternative tactic to supplement your child’s educational experience, challenges facing gifted teens, building a strong parent support group for gifted at your child’s school, understanding and advocating for the gifted child with a disability, and a panel of teens sharing what has helped them find success personally and in their academic lives.
Bring a brown bag lunch and spend an additional hour with other parents – learning and sharing.
Don’t miss this unique, dynamic opportunity to learn more about your gifted child and your role in his or her academic, social and emotional strength.
