As we wind down the school year, there are many accomplishments to look back on, as well as exciting changes to look forward to.
Firstly, the co-presidents, treasurer, and secretary for the last two school years are ending their tenure on the board of directors effective June 30, 2011. It has been an honor and a pleasure to work for and with the membership of CPA, the administration, faculties and staff of the highly capable programs in Edmonds School District, the state and national advocacy agencies, and the burgeoning number of parent groups for gifted programs developing in our neighboring districts. For a review of the CPA’s endeavors and accomplishments this year, please read the President’s Letter. The 2011-12 slate of officers was elected at our March 2011 meeting, and these officers will take the helm beginning July 1, 2011. Please plan to come out and meet them at the soon to be announced summer park dates and, of course, at the annual CPA Back to School BBQ at North Lynnwood Neighborhood Park on Sunday, August 28, 2011.
Secondly, we are pleased to officially announce the expansion of CPA’s membership to include the families and faculty of the Highly Capable Program at Brier Terrace Middle School. In May, the Terrace Park membership approved a revision of CPA’s bylaws allowing for the expansion of our membership to include the middle school Highly Capable Program. Now the teachers and families of 7th and 8th grade highly capable students have access to the same support and activities as 1st through 6th grade families have had through CPA. We hope to see middle school Highly Capable Program families at the summer park dates and Back to School BBQ as well, and welcome these families and faculty to CPA! We look forward to your active participation and gifts as we all endeavor to create a seamless transition for our gifted students across grade levels and programs in this district.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support of CPA and its mission. Enjoy your summer–September will be here before you know it!
