The Scholastic Book Fair is coming the week of March 15-18th!! Please visit Terrace Park’s Book Fair webpage and check out all the great up-to-date titles that will be offered. If you have some time and would like to volunteer for the fair, print and fill out the volunteer form below and turn it in to your child’s teacher, or the main office. Parent volunteers are essential to the success of Young Authors’ Day on Wednesday, March 17th. If you can dedicate that day (or just the morning or just the afternoon) to lead workshops in writing or illustration, lead sharing discussions of student writing, escort student groups, or help with other logistics, please fill out the attached form and submit it to your child’s teacher.
Volunteers are also needed to help with the Book Fair running throughout the week of March 15th – 18th. All proceeds from the book fair sales go directly to support future Young Authors’ Day programming. Please be sure to check the Book Fair box on the attached form if you can help.

Please join us for our general meeting in the Terrace Park Commons on March 9th at 7:00 p.m. Joining us will be Assistant Superintendent Dr. Tony Byrd, who will share with us some information on Edmonds School District gifted education programs, and Brier Terrace Middle School Principal Kevin Allen, who will discuss the highly capable middle school program.

Are you interested in helping plan the SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of Gifted) Meeting in Seattle 2011? Two “open hotel meetings” will be held Sat. Feb. 27 at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM at the Seattle Airport Marriott. All interested parents, educators and professionals are invited to attend these planning meetings.

If you will have students attending Brier Terrace Middle School next year, and are interested in serving on the PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) Board, the nominating committee would love to hear from you. Currently, all executive board positions are open for next year. Please contact the members of the committee with a little information about yourself and what your PTA experience is, if any. The nominating committee can be reached through an email to btms.ptsa@yahoo.com. The membership will be voting on officers at the March 11th meeting, so quick responses will be greatly appreciated.
Update: It’s not too late to join us on Friday. We did not have enough sign ups to get a tour or discount on adult tickets. But if you are still interested in going, please join us!

Your Challenge student will be automatically rolled up to Brier Terrace Middle School Gifted Program for 7th grade. If your child is going to BTM, you can stop reading.
If your child is not going to BTM, please let us know and go to your neighborhood home school for registration information.
If your child is not going to BTM or to your neighborhood or home school, the form for middle/high school transfers will need to be received at the Edmonds School District Office before Friday, FEBRUARY 12, 2010.
The 2010-2011 transfer form is different than the 2009-2010 form. Either form can be downloaded from the district website; www.edmonds.wednet.edu
We had a turnout of approximately 100 parents and students at this year’s Gifted Education Day in Olympia! A huge thank you to all who got up at the crack of dawn and headed down there to represent Terrace Park and the need for gifted education funding in the state of Washington.
The combination of seeing the many families and hearing the students’ stories in their own voices made a powerful impression on each legislator about the importance of funding for gifted education.
Here are the latest details and information on the planned activities for families from the Challenge Program in Edmonds School District attending Gifted Education Day in Olympia on Friday, February 5th. Everyone who has registered with CPA has received this information in email, but anyone with students in the gifted education programs are welcome to participate in Olympia on the 5th.
